Desborough Bowling Club held a very successful Pupils and Parents open day on Sunday 19th March.

Over 30 people attended. This follows the first 6 months successful running the Schools Bowls Academy in Maidenhead.

Well done to the Bowls Academy Girls. They gave a great demonstration of one end, including TOUCHERS!! on long jacks, and then were really good coaches showing the parents how to play. A credit to NGS and our club.

“I did not realise this was a sport for all ages and abilities, I will tell my family and friends to have a go”

“What a fun event. Definitely changes the image of Bowls”.

Most of the attendees are coming back for more tuition. The club is exploring plans to have more family options to play indoors over this summer.

2016 School Bowls Academy ends with cake

Today was the last day of our School Bowls Academy at Desborough Bowling Club this Year. We will start again next year on Friday January 13th at 4pm to 5pm.

We celebrated the success of the Girls great progress from beginners this Year with cake and then a very good Bowling session. The Year has shown that Bowling is for all ages and starting young is a great advantage and fun.

Thanks to the girls for the present and lovely card for all the team at the Club. They were much appreciated by your coaches.

First School Bowls Academy Year Ends Well in Maidenhead

On Friday 9th December, the School Bowls Academy will end its first successful year. This is based in the Indoor Desborough Bowling Club in York Road.

We started in May with 171 Maidenhead Year-9 School pupils attending “taster” sessions and this was followed by a one-day tournament in July for the top 24 players. Trophies and medals were awarded by our former World Ladies Champion, Mary Price.

During the autumn we ran a 5 week 6th-Form course “Introduction to the Sport of Bowls” and established a successful after-school Club running 4pm-5pm on Fridays. 15 pupils aged 15 to 18 come for further training and to learn and enjoy this great sport.

In January and February we will be taking this successful program to more Maidenhead Secondary Schools. We would like to start up a School Staff section on Friday afternoons alongside the after-school club. Our current set of Juniors will start to play mini-matches against each other.

Thanks to all our dedicated helpers at the club, the school staff and most of all the enthusiasm and talent of our junior players. Well done all.

Thanks to Emma Fitzgerald and Leigh Exworth for all their help getting this off the ground
